Sugar Cookie with Sour Cream Buttercream

This icing took this sugar cookie to a whole new level of DELICIOUS!!

Sugar Cookie Ingredients:

-1 cup butter

-1 cup sugar

-1 ½ tea vanilla extract

-1 egg

-3 cups flour

-1 ½ tea baking powder

¼ tea salt

Sugar Cookies Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla together until combined.
  3. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy, scraping the sides of the mixer as needed.
  4. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Sift together.
  5. Add flour mixture to butter mixture and mix until combined.
  6. Place dough on a well-floured surface and roll out to ½ inch thickness. Use whatever cutout you would like. I used heart-shaped cutters this time to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
  7. Place cutouts onto a baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.

Buttercream Ingredients:

-1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, softened

-¾ cups sour cream, room temperature

-5 cups confectioners sugar

-1 tea salt

Buttercream Directions:

  1. Combine butter, sour cream, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer or use a hand mixer.
  2. When ingredients are fully mixed start adding confectioners sugar one cup at a time.
  3. If desired, add in a few drops of food coloring and mix until completely mixed.
  4. Use an offset spatula or add to icing bag with a tip and frost each cookie.
