Sourdough Waffles

Sourdough Waffles

These waffles are so delicious and they have all of the wonderful benefits of sourdough!  We topped ours with homemade whipped cream and a blueberry compote.  The kids said and I quote, “this is the best breakfast ever!!!”

Ingredients:
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tea salt
  • ¼ tea baking soda
  • 1 cup sourdough starter, active or not
  • 1 ¼  cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • 2 large eggs
Directions:
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, sea salt, and baking soda.
  2. Add sourdough starter, buttermilk, butter, and eggs. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Preheat the waffle iron and spray with oil if needed.
  4. Pour an appropriate amount of waffle mix into the waffle iron and cook until golden brown.  Approximately 3-5 minutes.  We like our waffles a lighter brown and softer texture.
  5. Serve with butter, whipped cream, fresh fruit, syrup, and/or a fruit compote.

Note: I made fresh whipped cream and a blueberry compote that we put on top of our waffles.  It was delicious. I also made mini bunny waffles which were so fun for the kids to eat.
