Sourdough Sandwich Bread

This is my favorite sourdough recipe!  Don’t get me wrong the pretty loaves with designs are great but this loaf is much more usable as an everyday bread and is my go to recipe for my family. 

Ingredients:
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 cup active starter
  • 2 ½ cups water
  • 7 ½ cups all-purpose flour
Directions:
  1. Add all ingredients into a stand mixer or a large bowl.  
  2. Knead until dough is stretchy and smooth.  You want it to pull away from the sides of the bowl and be smooth and elastic. This will take about 10 minutes. 
  3. Allow to bulk rise for 10 hours in a warm place.
  4. Divide into two equal parts.
  5. Shape by rolling the dough flat into a rectangle and then roll it up.
  6. Add to a parchment-lined bread pan. 
  7. Second rise for 2-4 hours at room temperature until loaves have doubled in size.
  8. Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes, or until golden on top.  
  9. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

Yields: 2 loaves
